That's a great article.

The counterpart to this I guess is the BSG Chemie Leipzig to RB Leipzig story.

There's a red pill / blue pill sense in the RB vs Dynamo choice that encapsulates something of the wider dilemma facing the former East.

Many thanks, Martin.

Yes, absolutely! Totally agree with you on that. I’ll save it and maybe write an article about it.

Great article and as an Ossi somewhat keener on geopolitics than football but still very interested in the latter ;) thanks so much @Gëzim for this fantastic post. Also I support both Dynamo and RB Leipzig (because of Leipzig, not that weird drink).

Many thanks Stephen! Yeah, this is the goal of my newsletter. Starting from sports and diving into geopolitics. Hope you enjoyed the other part :)

This is a great read. As someone who has lived in the East and written about the divisions that still exist, I confess the treatment of East German Clubs after reunification was something I was quite ignorant of. So thanks for enlightening me. I'm sure there's a book in this!

Dear Matthew, this is so kind of you. Thank you so much for taking the time to read it and for your kind words. It means a lot! And also thanks for the book suggestion. If this project goes well, who knows, maybe one day I’ll manage to write one :)

Terrific piece, very well done! As a US citizen, the themes of this disunity in Germany resonates strongly with me. Can definitely see the parallels between former Union and Confederate states here still in conflict over 150 years after the ending of the Civil War.
